2013 Resolutions

After reviewing my 2012 resolutions, I have a better idea of how to construct my 2013 resolutions. Less is more.

Here are some items which i hope to complete by end of the year:

1) Save 5K and to use it for taking up self improvement courses

If you have known, Love and I are working in the IT industry, so we are more technically inclined and ever since we started Love At Sg, designing is always our headache. So i’ll be exploring to attend some Adobe courses like Photoshop & Illustrator for a start.

Personally i’m interested in photography and since we have just bought the Olympus PEN mini, i think i should make full use of it’s functions by attending some basic photography course.

2) Start investing

That’s the only way (for me currently) to earn money at a faster rate. Enough said.

3) Taiwan trip with family (est. 6K)

Super looking forward to this trip, i’m sure my family members will love Taiwan as I do!

4) Personal & Parent’s health checkup

I’ve been postponing this health checkup for the longest time and i think it’s critical. Prevention is better than cure.

Can’t think of any more now, but if there’s any i’ll be back to fill them up. I’m going to keep the list to 5 or 6 max.

2012 Resolutions Review

To recap, below are the list of resolutions for 2012

1) Organize at least 1 mini flea / booth to sell away clothes and earn at least $100 profit

I actually had my first booth during May and second booth during Dec at Scape Level 4, earned more than $100 for both booths combined. I’m determined to carry on this flea next year as well as it gives me the chance to clear away my pre-loved clothes and purchase new ones!

2) Save up for 2013 lasik surgery (est. 5K)

Sad to say, i did not managed to save 5K this year 🙁

3) Travel to Bangkok with family (est. 2K)

First overseas holiday trip with the family, money well spent!

4) Launch website portal

After years of procrastination, Love and I managed to set up our own portal – Love At Sg, we hope we’ll have the determination to carry on our initiatives and be able to help like-minded couples in Singapore in a way or another.

5) Complete at least 5 books

I’m guilty of this resolution. If you say books, I definitely have bought 5 (or maybe more) but if you say read, I have only managed to complete 1. :X I’m restricting myself from purchasing anymore books until i have completed them. That’s hard as well okay. >.<

6) Provide family allowance of at least $250/month (est. 3K/yr)

I’m providing more than 2 times of the stated amount. Which is sort of linked to why i did not managed to meet my second resolution. :X

7) Personal + Parent’s health checkup
8) Flu Vaccine for family
9) Complete Hepatitis A vaccine course

Out of the 3 health resolutions, i only managed to complete one. But i did managed to start the course of cervical jab, which i’ll talk more about in another post.

5 out of 9 resolutions completed for year 2012. Not an impressive score but at least it did get my butt out to accomplish something. Maybe I shouldn’t be too greedy for 2013’s resolution list.

Different perspective of life

Came across this article, found it quite interesting to look at different angles in life:

两个婆婆的对话~

一位婆婆对著邻居说:我那个媳妇,好吃懒做,睡到中午,家事也没做,东西还让我儿子拿到房间给她吃,真是太过份

后来邻居反问她:你女儿嫁的还不错吧?

那位婆婆说:对啊,过的很幸福呢,大家都对她很好,也不用做家事,假日都到处去玩,也可以睡到中午,女婿还会煮东西送到房间给我女儿吃呢!

One sentence which is pretty true: 要嫁人不只是嫁老公,是嫁进另一个家,所以要找的不是一个可以依靠的男人,而是一个可以包容你的家庭

Logos with hidden meanings

Chance upon this interesting post. It’s a compilation of logos with hidden messages. I thought it is pretty amazing, most of the established company logos are seen almost everywhere, but we just didn’t spot the interesting part of the logo design.

To list a few commonly seen logos in Singapore:

Formula 1 Logo
Designed by: Carter Wong Tomlinson

I knew that this logo has the letter “F” and number “1” in it somehow but i didn’t figure out that it’s the negative space in the middle that creates the “1”, i always thought the “1” was the oddly shape “1” in red.

FedEx Logo
Designed by: Lindon Leader from leadercreative

The FedEx logo looks just like a text based logo with differentiation in color, but if you take a second look between the “E” and the “X”, you will see an arrow which represents the speed and accuracy of the company’s deliveries.

SUN Microsystems Logo
Designed by: Vaughan Pratt

The SUN Microsystems logo is a wonderful example of symmetry and order. You can read the word “sun” from any direction. It was a brilliant observation that the letters “U” and “N” while arranged adjacent to each other look a lot like the letter S in a perpendicular direction.

Amazon Logo
Designed by: Turner Duckworth

The Amazon logo may look simple while the yellow arrow looks like a smile, but it actually points from letter “A” to “Z” which represents that Amazon sells everything from a to z and the smile brought to the customer’s face.

Carrefour Logo
Original design examined by Miles Newlyn

Carrefour means “crossroads” in French and the logo symbolizes this word via two opposite arrows. They added the letter “C” in the negative space between the two arrows. I took quite some time to figure out the “C”, it’s amazing!

Baskin Robbins Logo
Designed by: Ogilvy & Mather

The current logo is clever in that it incorporates the 31 (in pink) that represents the 31 flavors, cleverly embedding it in the “B” “R” of the logo. The pink represents the pink spoon which is given when customers ask for samples.

Toblerone Logo

According to my memory, Toblerone’s logo is just a mountain.  But hey, look closer. There’s a bear shape hidden in the negative space within that mountain! Toblerone chocolate company is from Bern, Switzerland, where it’s known for high mountains and is called “The City Of Bears”. So that explains the bear with the mountain. Next time before you eat up the chocolate, lookout for the bear!

Sony Vaio Logo

VAIO stands for Visual Audio Intelligence Organizer. Coincidentally, the letters “V” and “A” form an analog signal while the letters “I” and “O” represents the binary digits 1 and 0, perfectly illustrating the integration of analog and digital technology.

Lastly, the one that i like most, which is not commonly seen in Singapore,
Northwest Airlines Logo

The Northwest Airlines logo has two hidden meanings. For one it has the letters “N” and “W” in positive and negative spaces. And there is another less apparent idea in there. The triangle points to north-west within the circle as if it was a compass. Brilliant!

Now after all the fascinating logos, it just makes me want to look more in detail on logos that i happen to chance by. I shall post up more interesting logos when i chance upon any that are commonly seen in Singapore yet has “hidden meanings”. LOL!

Know your worktype – TidePool

oh-my-god! I just have to share this, among many other traditional personality tests which i have taken previously such as DISC and MBTI, this is by far one of the most interesting and accurate test which provides results in concise paragraphs, pinpointing the important and crucial points which i have been long searching for to best describe myself!

Aiya! Just realized the photo is too small for viewing.

Here’s the result:

The Chess Master
The Chess Master brings confidence, vision, and effective communication to inspire and lead teams to success.

Assessment Feedback
You have good communication skills and like to use them to lead others. You can organize a team to take on a challenge, and inspire people to get on board and follow your vision. These are powerful gifts to bring to a work place. What makes you especially interesting, is the fact that you’re not really an extravert. In fact, being with people can completely exhaust you. Despite your ability to organize, persuade, and manage others, you desire — and even need — time alone.

When you get that time to re-charge, you can come across as confident and assertive, even energetic. Some people may see you as a risk-taker who’s able to see the big idea and move people toward it. While others may end up being responsible for carrying out your original vision, it’s you who provides the inspiration and influence to get it off the ground.

Obviously, it’s important that you continue to take care of yourself by finding time to be alone and re-fill your tank. Also, make sure that you pay attention to the needs and desires of the people around you. Don’t get so focused on your own ideas and visions that you neglect the concerns of others — or of yourself.

You’re a quiet and deliberate individualist who regularly forgoes loud parties in favor of relaxing at home with a project or a good movie. At work, you can be trusted to meticulously pick apart, examine, and find a solution to any problem. If you’re given a managerial position, it might be a challenge for you to reconcile your responsibilities with your social preference. We recommend that you give your employees a wide degree of autonomy with a hands-off management approach, rather than attempting to micromanage your team and creating unnecessary stress. Socially, we recommend that you spend most of your time with a group of close friends, since you find that meeting new people can be exhausting.

=============================================

The being alone part is really true, i really need some time to be alone just doing my own stuffs (that includes blogging) and i really enjoy the me-time.

But i don’t see myself as a loner. (Even eating alone is something which i would definitely avoid at all cost, if there’s really no one to accompany me, i would rather not eat, seriously.)

I do enjoy people’s company and most of the time i listen more than i talk, when i don’t talk, it does not mean that i’m not interested, i might be very interested but probably i just don’t know what to say even thou i have alot of thinking in my head.

So sometimes i contradict myself, i want to be and get involved in a crowd but at times i just like to be in my own world.

This is actually the same prediction from the tarot card reading i had previously.

Getting too focused on my own ideas and vision could be a problem of myself, sometimes i just keep myself too occupied with my own work (which includes managing my own people) that i practically neglect the existence of other people. It is not that i do not care about others, i really do care but i think i just have to be not too focused on working on my stuffs and socialize more with others.

Well, enough of me. The purpose of this entry is just to share with everyone this amazing personality test: Tidepool go try it and let me know if it’s also as accurate for yourself!
