11th storey and counting

Updates on my new flat:

26th April
Completed 9th storey, preparing for 10th storey

24th May
Completed 11th storey, preparing for 12th storey

You can see that our carpark is almost done up with the paint coating, left the garden top to be furnished. For those faster  progress flats, some have already completed the full 17th storey and the good news for them:

Their Probable Completion Date is revised earlier from Q3 2014 to Q2 2014! Meanwhile the rest of us are still eagerly waiting for HDB to revise ours as well, let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Previously, i posted a video on the Tampines Town Hub which is slated to complete in 2016. On 11th May 2013, it was the ground breaking ceremony! The design of Tampines Town Hub was shared with the Tampines residents and here’s a video of it, got me looking forward to it again!

Warren Buffett Shares His Most Essential Advice For Generation Y

by Sean Levinson | May 8 2013

Warren Buffett assumed the role of mentor to the youth yesterday when he gave networking and career advice in an “Office Hours” session with Levo League, a site aimed to assist youngsters in making their dreams come true.

The Berkshire Hathaway CEO shared personal stories about his fear of public speaking, and notably told women to “stop holding yourself” back.

Here’s 9 points Buffett highlighted as some of the most important steps to follow on the path to success:

1. Find your passion.

“Never give up searching for the job that you’re passionate about,” he says. “Try to find the job you’d have if you were independently rich. … Forget about the pay. When you’re associating with the people that you love, doing what you love, it doesn’t get any better than that.”

2. Be careful who you admire.

“If you tell me who your heroes are, I’ll tell you how you’re gonna turn out. It’s really important in life to have the right heroes. I’ve been very lucky in that I’ve probably had a dozen or so major heroes. And none of them have ever let me down. You want to hang around with people that are better than you are. You will move in the direction of the crowd that you associate with.”

3. Learn how to communicate effectively.
While getting his MBA from Columbia University, Buffett revealed that he was “terrified of public speaking,” causing him to withdraw from a Dale Carnegie class. But after graduating he saw the ad for the course again and decided to give himself a second chance.

“I became associated with the 30 other people in the class. We couldn’t stand up in front of a group and say our own name. I mean it was — we were — it was pathetic. But that class changed my life in a big way.”

4. Develop healthy habits by studying people.

“Pick the person that has the right habits, that is cheerful, generous, gives other people credit for what they do. Look at all of the qualities that you admire in other people … and say to yourself, ‘Which of those qualities can’t I have myself?’ Because you determine whether you have them. And the truth is you can have all of them.”

5. Learn how to say “no.”

“You won’t keep control of your time, unless you can say ‘no.’ You can’t let other people set your agenda in life.”

6. Don’t work for someone who won’t pay you fairly.

“I do very little negotiation with people. And they do little with me, in terms of it … if I was a woman and I thought I was getting paid considerably less than somebody else that was equal coming in, that would bother me a lot. I probably wouldn’t even want to work there. I mean, [if] somebody’s gonna be unfair with you, in salary, they’re probably being unfair with you in a hundred other ways.”

7. Become involved with growing businesses.

“I mean, you want to get on a train that’s going to go 90 miles an hour and not one that’s gonna go 30 miles an hour and you’re gonna try to figure out how to, you know, push it along a little faster. So it really does make a huge difference. And there are some businesses that inherently [have] far more opportunities than others.”

8. Learn everything you can about your industry.
Buffett says he reads for six hours every day because he believes that growing your intellectual capacity will help you solve problems more effectively.

“I knew a lot about what I did when I was 20. I had read a lot, and I aspired to learn everything I could about the subject.”

9. Young women should seek mentors.

“These [mentoring] relationships all just evolve. I never set out to become a mentor … It’s amazing … how the person that really wants to do a terrific job just jumps out. There aren’t that many. You will be perceived as exceptional and as a worthy person for a superior to spend some extra time with if you just do something extra all the time. It seems elementary, but it’s true.”

At the end of the interview, Buffett reminded everyone to keep getting up after all falls because “you are healthy, and bright and have decades ahead of you.”

6th storey and counting

Hello all! I can’t believe that this is my first post of the year and it’s already March! *gasps*
Blame it on my laziness and endless procrastination 🙁 I swear i’m going to post up all the outdated post as soon as possible, so do keep coming back!

Just a little update on my new flat:

Feb 22
Completed 5th storey on February, preparing for 6th storey

March 3
Completed 6th storey on March, preparing for 7th storey

Seems like the progress is on average 2 weeks for 1 storey? Which means 20 more weeks (5 more months ~ July) to finish building our block of 17 storeys!
Lets wait patiently 🙂

Valentine’s Day Dinner @ High Society

Purple bouquet of flowers delivered to my office. Most memorable – the china delivery man called and said he couldn’t locate my office building and asked me to come down to collect the bouquet. Love was very pissed and he thinks the delivery man deliberately did that so he could shorten the time and do more deliveries. Oh well…

We usually celebrate with a huge feast at some hotel buffet after work but since this year’s falls on a Thursday, we thought of feasting on Friday instead so we can spend the whole night away without worrying to work the next day. The plan after work was to meet up with my Malaysia cousins whom came to Singapore for CNY visit at MBS, but due to the rain, we were unable to meet up, therefore, Mr.LTT and I went to find dinner ourselves, settled at High Society.

I didn’t know they only serve Valentine’s Day meal and that set meal cost $145++! Unexpectedly, we spent our Valentine’s Day meal at High Society.

That’s not the end of the episode, we waited for nearly 2 hours for the entire course meal to be served and the waiter only told us that they are short of chefs in the kitchen in the middle of our wait. It’s like i thought it’s Valentine’s Day and you guys should know that people (or rather couples) will be dining out. What’s the point of offering a Valentine’s Day Course Meal when you are not prepared.

Well, when the bill came, we said we are not going to pay the 10% service charge. At least the saving grace was that they offered a discount and compensate with two complimentary cupcakes.

Reached home and saw this postcard in my mail! Love from Steph during her Taiwan trip!
It feels good so loved to receive handwritten cards, those are rare gems now. <3

CNY 2013

CNY this year was exceptionally quiet at my paternal grandma’s house. Seems like CNY without grandma is getting worse as years passed.
Reunion dinner used to open 3 tables (2 for Adults, 1 for Children) in restaurant but this year shrank to just 1.
Some were not intending to come, while some will only be coming the following day.

My family’s plan is to stay on the reunion day and set off to my maternal grandma’s house the next day and come back again on the fourth day for a stopover before heading back to Singapore.

Kept ourselves entertained with fireworks and something new – 天灯 (Sky Lantern)

The atmosphere is totally different at my maternal grandma’s house. It’s still as noisy and lively with majority of the cousins and relatives coming together, with plus one new addition to the family this year!

The cheeky siblings never fail to be in my pictures every year.

The new addition – Jovenna

One of my relative family followed my family from Malaysia to Singapore for a short holiday, it’s been really long since they last came to Singapore and their main motive is to visit the newly opened attraction places like Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by The Bay, Resort World Sentosa, Singapore Flyer. It’s quite a waste that i have to work straight after the CNY public holidays, so i can’t join them along.

Well, back to office, the recreation committee has once again hired the “Cai Shen Ye” and “Lion Dance Troupe” to our office. The Account Managers were all trying to get the “Cai Shen Ye” to sit on their seats so they will “huat”!

We’re very impressed with this Lion Dance troupe, they really did a great job, especially arranging the mandarin oranges into a very nice Snake symbol and a few Chinese characters with 4 numbers.

“Lou Hei” with the girls at Chinatown’s hawker centre…huat ah! May the snake year be a prosperous and joyous year!
